Finding my inner self

Hello, let me introduce myself, I am Doris Hullett. Recently I wrote an article, but you still didn't have a chance to get to know me, or who I am. So, I thought I would write from my heart instead.

There are so many ways to write: Informative, Persuasive, Legal, Medical, Copywriting, Sales, How To’s, Technical, Creative. I thought I would write a little more on the personal side.

Due to the recently down-sized economy, I started my own online, home-based business and sideline as a sounding board to other entrepreneurs. You build momentum as a business, but then there is a slight interruption to the entire routine—it’s called life. In this particular life instance, it was my daughter.

My daughter was preparing for college, and the departure/due-date was approaching. I had pretty mixed feelings; bittersweet if you would. I was juggling a business, and packing my bags down to the last minute.

My daughter was saying good bye to all her friends as the days approached, and trying to keep the suitcases below the weight limit. Good thing she doesn’t have to pack for four seasons!

As it turned out, we (or should I say I?) got through it much better than we thought. I didn’t even cry; a little shaky, close, but I made it.

I used to think, “What’s the big fuss about your teenager going to college?” “No big deal.” Until I became a parent, and realized your heart was walking outside of you in the form of a dear loved one.

You want the best for your children, and you want them to succeed further than you had. You nurture, prepare, help them in school, feel pain in their struggles, and joy in their great accomplishments.

Not only do you miss your children, but the distance will most likely be permanent. Of course, you’ve been training them their whole lives to become who they are, and now it is time to RELEASE and let go. Let go. That hurts.

We somehow forget ourselves in the equation of training them to become independent. Everything is shifting, and then we begin growing again.

Oh, and by the way, where did she go to college you ask? Well, Hawaii!

More like 4,000 miles away? She won’t be home for Thanksgiving weekend, that’s for sure.

But, Christmas is good.
