SO HOW DID THE BUSINESS TRIP GO?
Doris Hulletts Thoughts on freedom to have an Online Business and still work away from home...
Good question!
Our college trip to Hawaii had begun. Everything was fine until our connecting flight in Atlanta didn’t connect. It’s not like the bus schedule, where you just take the next one 15 minutes later. So we lost a whole day of our trip. However, the airline worked with us to reschedule, which was very professional, courteous, and showed good business ethics.
My business philosophy is, “The customer is always right.” That’s how you keep your customer in your business. That’s old-school thinking, but I’m of the same common-sense thought. If you don’t have customers, you don’t have a business. If there is a need, let’s see how we can work together to fulfill it.
Of course, sleeping overnight in a noisy, cold, brightly-lit airport means you really don’t sleep. At all. I would have loved to have muted the tv; it blared non-stop.
Once we were finally on the direct flight to Hawaii, I can safely say that we passed out for nearly 9 hours. I really didn’t know what to expect, but I will say we pretty much fell in love with Hawaii.
During the week there, we were able to take care of college business: registration, orientation, campus tours, student-and-parent dinners, moving the collegiate in, and going shopping for all those liquids that you can’t take on the plane…like shampoo, conditioner, and soap. I completely settled my daughter into her new life.
We also were able to take care of some other extremely important business: Pearl Harbor & the USS Arizona Memorial, Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, the Governor’s residence, tour the city, visit the Polynesian Culture Center with it’s phenomenal “Ha: Breath of Life” play, Waikiki Beach, and snorkel at the crystal-clear Hanauma Bay on the Island of Oahu.
Like most business owners and entrepreneurs, you can’t really ever leave your business without checking on it, or spending a little time working on it, even on a trip such as this. Our hotel had computer accommodations which allowed me to perform core business duties and still ‘work from home’ away from home with my online business. I had the freedom and mobility to take care of my family. And why do we work? To take care of our family.
Why, the very fact that you can have a work-from-home business away from home, and the flexibility you need to take care of your professional and personal business—what could be better than that?
